Creating maps from GAMS via R. The maps are at country and fpu (basin) level. R can export to different bitmap and vector formats.
I am a full-time consultant and provide services related to the design, implementation and deployment of mathematical programming, optimization and data-science applications. I also teach courses and workshops. Usually I cannot blog about projects I am doing, but there are many technical notes I'd like to share. Not in the least so I have an easy way to search and find them again myself. You can reach me at erwin@amsterdamoptimization.com.

Watson Related Revenue: 100 million vs 10 billion
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-01-10/ibms-artificial-intelligence-problem-or-why-watson-cant-get-a-job
Watson realized $100 million in revenue vs. a predicted 10 billion. That is a factor 100 off. Such a forecast error is not really a good showcase for "predictive analytics." Of course these kind of predictions are often more goal setting or inspirational rather than serious forecasts. (For me $100 million is not something to sneeze at).
